GRAIN-FREE TORTILLA CHIPS, PALEO SNACK MIX & EVERYTHING ELSE I BOUGHT AT THRIVE THIS MONTH

GRAIN-FREE TORTILLA CHIPS, PALEO SNACK MIX & EVERYTHING ELSE I BOUGHT AT THRIVE THIS MONTH

I love trying new natural and organic brands. Like, it's actually a hobby. The first thing I do when I walk into any grocery store is head to the natural/organic aisle, and peruse the shelves until I find something new to try. Not “to see” if I find something new to try, until I find something new to try. Now that I think about it, I guess it's really more of a problem, but whatever; I'm working on it. (No I'm not.)

I first heard about Thrive Market on a podcast. Long story short, forgot to cancel my free-trial, wound up with a year-long membership, not mad about it. (It's actually not that long of a story. That's literally exactly what happened.) Thrive Market is a website that sells natural and organic products for less than you'll find them at Whole Foods (and, to be fair, pretty much every other grocery store). They carry mostly packaged and non-perishable food items, bath and body products, cleaning supplies, and they recently started carrying sustainably-raised meat and seafood.

Since I tend to spend 87% of my paycheck at the grocery store, I'm actually really glad I found Thrive. Initially I didn’t think I was saving much, but when you look at your account overview, Thrive actually shows you how much you would've paid at a grocery store, and how much you've saved. It really adds up, plus it’s an awesome way to discover new brands you might not have found at the grocery store, so for $60 a year, I'm in. Here are a few of my favorite things I ordered from Thrive this month:

1. SIETE GRAIN-FREE TORTILLA CHIPS - SEA SALT

I love these tortilla chips more than literally any other tortilla chip I’ve had in my life. Even Chipotle. If you’re into thin, cantina-style tortilla chips, you’ll love these grain-free tortilla chips. They currently come in three flavors- sea salt, lime, and nacho- and I love the sea salt. Lime is second. Haven’t tried nacho. What to make: Chips & Guac, Taco Salad, Vegan Nachos

2. THRIVE MARKET PALEO SNACK MIX - SAVORY

I don’t really care that it’s “paleo,” but I do care that this snack mix has just a few ingredients, and is tasty af. I haven’t tried the other flavors, but savory has my heart. Get at least 2 bags. 3 if you’re feeling splurgey.

3. ENJOY LIFE SNICKERDOODLE SOFT-BAKED COOKIES

I love this brand, but the soft-baked snickerdoodle cookies are my favorite. I first discovered these cookies at Giant, and when I saw that Thrive carried them, that was just validation that they were meant to be in my life. These cookies are grain-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and the list goes on. Not to mention, they’re fucking yummy. When I want something sweet (always), but want a healthier option (usually), these cookies are my go-to. Be warned, they're tiny. Don't care. They're delicious.

4. ROSEMARY & SEA SALT ALMOND FLOUR CRACKERS

These crackers are amazing. Definitely on my list of top 3 crackers of all time. I would never consider these crackers an “alternative” to traditional crackers. They would be my first choice. They’re crunchy, delicious, and I love the rosemary flavor. Top with: Almond Butter / Smashed Avocado & TJ's Everthing But the Bagel Seasoning / Avocado Salmon Salad (see below)

5. WILD PLANET WILD PINK SALMON

I can’t say if this is the most sustainable canned salmon out there, but I do know that when I’m buying a food product, seafood or not, I just follow one simple rule: do your best. I love that this salmon is wild caught, and is cooked and ready to use. Great for salmon cakes, and avocado salmon salad.

Avocado Salmon Salad

  • 1 Can Salmon

  • 1 Ripe Avocado

  • Salt, Pepper, and Fresh Lemon Juice to Taste

Directions: Add the avocado to a bowl, and mash it up. Drain salmon, and add to the bowl with the avocado. Mix it all up. Add salt, pepper, and fresh lemon juice to taste. Sprinkle on some cayenne to spice it up. Serve with those yummy almond-flour crackers (see above), or on a grain-free sandwich or wrap.

This list could keep runnin' runnin' and runnin' runnin', but these are just a few of my favorite Thrive Market buys this month. What healthy brands are you loving right now?
